About CoolBest

1995. The Netherlands is introduced to CoolBest: the first fruit juice sold directly from the refrigerator!

And with good reason: refrigeration preserves optimal quality and taste. At CoolBest, we are only satisfied when we have found the most delicious flavor.

We keep it cool, you get the best!

Our mission

Our mission is therefore to create the ideal blend of flavor and healthy ingredients, ensuring that our juices are always extra delicious, extra healthy, or extra surprising. In recent years, we have continuously introduced surprising flavor combinations, always using the most delicious fruits as a base. Our favorites, Premium Orange, Strawberry Hill, and Mango Dream, have become indispensable.

Now, more than 25 years later, we are still working on our mission with the same passion, in line with the latest trends. Quality, nature, and people are our top priorities. We feel responsible for what we do and therefore also for our impact on people, the environment, and society. And our entire range still contains only natural fruit sugars, so feel free to treat yourself to something extra every day with CoolBest.

The best juice

In 2017, independent research agency Ivomar conducted a survey among 450 consumers aged 20 to 60 who regularly drink chilled fruit juices. They tested our Premium Orange, Strawberry Hill, and Mango Dream in three groups based on taste and taste expectations compared to those of competitors. CoolBest juices came out on top in the test!

Below, you can read in four steps how we ensure that the tastiest juice from the orchard ends up in your glass.

Step 1. Selection

Only the tastiest fruit

There are many different factors that influence the quality of fruit, such as the variety, the soil, and the climate where the variety grows. Take our blood oranges, for example: they come specially from Sicily, where they grow on the slopes of Mount Etna. Here, it is very hot during the day and very cold at night. This ensures optimal flavor development and more color.

We only use the very best fruit for our juices, so we select the varieties with the best flavor from countries all over the world. For example, our Alphonso mangoes come from India and our Senga Sengana strawberries come from Poland. We source our oranges (Pera, Valencia, Folha Murcha, and Natal) from Brazil, because this is where the tastiest oranges grow. The selection of the best fruit starts in our orchards, where the trees must be mature and old enough (at least 8 years!) to produce flavorful fruit.

Picking and ripening

Many fruit suppliers often use machines to harvest their crops in order to save on labor costs. This involves stripping the tree bare in one go, which means that unripe and overripe fruit are also picked. Although this method of harvesting saves costs, it has a negative impact on the quality of the juice. Fruit that is unripe or overripe has a bitter taste. This is why we pick our fruit by hand. Only in this way can each piece of fruit be individually assessed for ripeness, and we only pick the fruit when it is optimally ripe. If some of the fruit is not yet ripe enough, it is left on the tree until the next harvest. Strict selection criteria are applied during picking. For example, the size of the fruit is carefully checked, as oranges that are too large often taste too watery. If the oranges are too small, you end up squeezing the peel, which gives the juice a bitter taste. That is why we only use medium-sized oranges.

When it comes to ripening the fruit, we don’t choose the fastest method, but the method that ensures the best quality. Take our Mango Dream, for example, which owes its intense natural mango flavor to traditional ripening, among other things, so that the mangoes become really intensely sweet. With this traditional method, mangoes ripen naturally on a bed of rice straw, in contrast to the modern ripening cells that are used today for ripening mangoes. CoolBest therefore goes back to its roots for the best quality!

Step 2. Press

Extra mild pressing method

Juice is often produced using a harsh pressing method that causes pieces of peel to end up in the juice, giving it a bitter taste. We choose a method that produces the best quality juice. The juice is pressed very gently, so that fewer pieces of peel end up in the juice. This makes CoolBest juice even tastier!

Step 3. Concentrate

Environmentally friendly transport

The fruit is pressed and concentrated in the country of origin. During this process, we remove some of the water from the juice by briefly heating it, leaving a concentrate. This allows it to be frozen at a lower temperature (it remains liquid), which better preserves the flavor and vitamins. The concentrate is transported to the Netherlands frozen. Once in the Netherlands, we thaw the frozen concentrate so that we can add the same amount of water back to it. We use very pure water for this because our factory is located in the Veluwe, where the water is of high quality. In total, the use of concentrate reduces CO2 emissions by 39.5% compared to juice that does not use concentrate! Concentrating is therefore much less harmful to the environment!

Step 4 Keep it cool

Keep refrigerated

The juice is frozen within 24 hours of harvesting. CoolBest must never be stored or transported without refrigeration. Retailers are also required to keep CoolBest refrigerated at all times. Keeping it ice cold means that the taste and vitamins are optimally preserved. This preserves the best quality and therefore the tastiest and freshest flavor. That way, you get the best! We keep it cool, you get the best!
